Bill sponsor Rep. Joan Brady, R-Richland, said she’s fine with the amendment to her bill because most dating violence occurs in girl-boy relationships. Gay rights advocates have disagreed and said same-sex couples should be included
I just love how people ignore basic logic. How does she know most dating violence occurs in girl-boy relationships? Also, how can you seperate our reported data from the fact that motions like these make it much harder for same-sex couples to come forward about dating violence. If you relationship isn’t considered important or valid in the first place, why would you think that people will be there to help you when it gets stressful?
At least one guy was blatantly honest about his motives
“I don’t want the Department of Education or school districts to teach children in grades six through 12 about (same-sex) relationships,” Delleney said.
I just love the stick our head in the sand approach. If we act like it’s not there then it won’t happen. Fucking idiots.
Excellent point.
I know that I have read a thing or two about same sex partner violence. I also learned that a lot of it goes unreported (for instance, in the military, where same sex couples have to hide and can’t report out of fear).

Numerically, it’s believable that most dating violence occurs in hetero relationships simply because there are more of them, but like you said, it’s stupid and othering to exclude any mention of same-sex cases.
